Anasazi
cliff dwelling ruins in Canyon de Chilly.
Note the petroglyphs in the canyon wall below the ruins.
Also
note the small windowless structures at the left edge of the
cave and on a second story of the cave at the right. These structures
are for winter food storage. The Anasazi kept their food storage
separate from their living quarters to keep the food from becoming
infected by sick people.
Anasazi
is a the Navajo word for the "Ancient ones" that inhabited
the Four corners region between around 1AD and 1300.
Their houses were abandoned by the time the Navajo people settled
into the area.
