Jaguar
XJ-13 prototype
This
was the last Jaguar LEMANS prototype built by Jaguar. It is
also the last Jaguar designed by Malcolm Sayer, who also designed
the Jaguar C, D and E types. This car was built during 1965
and 1966. Jaguar no longer had the financial resources to bring
this car into competitive status and the project was shelved
with a single prototype built.
This
prototype is powered by a mid mounted V-12 engine that also
never went into production. This was Jaguar's first V-12 design.
The
car crashed during publicity filming in 1971 and sat for two
years until Jaguar rebuilt the car.
Jaguar
reentered factory backed racing in 1974.
I
personally feel that this was the most beautiful car Jaguar
ever built and would be my choice in the game of" if I
could have any car in the world".
Jaguar
was the featured Marque during the 1992 Monterey Historic Races
at Laguna Seca Raceway.
The
Jaguar factory brought prototype and race cars for display during
the race weekend.
